Obesity has reached epidemic levels in America. 2/3 of Americans are obese and obesity amongst children is on the rise. Naturally, interest in weight loss has become prevalent and many people are searching for the best diet pills available on the market. Obesity is linked to many diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, heart disease, stroke, certain types of cancer, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, metabolic syndrome, sleep apnea, asthma, arthritis, gallbladder disease, liver disease, urinary incontinence and depression. In addition to the search for the best diet pills, people are also looking for diet and exercise programs. Some feel that diet and exercise alone cannot provide the help needed and look for the best diet pill options. There are certainly no shortage of diet pills on the market. Everything from fat burners to carb blockers to diet pills that trick your brain into thinking you are not hungry. So how do you select the best diet pill option for yourself?

It’s important to first consider your current situation and what your goals are. Are you currently on a diet and exercise plan? Or have you not dieted or exercised in years? Are you trying to lose weight? Body fat? Or just become more physically active for the sake of better fitness? Once you have determined what your current situation is and what your goals are, you’ll be in a better position to create the appropriate path. In general, when searching for the best diet pills, it’s important to find supplements that are all-natural and do not contain any dangerous ingredients. Look up the individual ingredients online and ensure that none have been banned by the FDA. It is also important to search for reputable brands. Do your homework to find out how long the product has been on the market, what reviews the product has received online and what kind of money back guarantee is offered. Many companies allow you to try their products risk-free, meaning you purchase the product, try it, and if you’re dissatisfied for any reason you can return the product for a full refund. The best diet pills will guarantee their results and stand behind their products.

Some diet pills will claim that they can help you boost energy, boost your metabolism, or simply help you eat less. Diet pills can be available as prescription drugs or as over the counter supplements. Prescription diet pills include Meridia and Xenical. These can only be obtained with a prescription from your doctor. Prescription diet pills are typically intended for short term use – a few weeks or a few months. Diet pills that serve as appetite suppressants intend on helping you to eat less. They achieve this by tricking your body into thinking you are not hungry. One example of a prescription diet pill that does this is phentermine. Some prescription diet pills act as fat absorption inhibitors – meaning they prevent your body from absorbing some of the fat you eat. An example of a diet pill that does this is Xenical. Xenical is available in over the counter form (less strength) as Alli. The unabsorbed fat is eliminated from your body through bowel movements.

Over the counter diet pills are available without a prescription and can be purchased at your local supermarket or drugstore. Some over the counter diet pills include herbal dietary supplements that are typically labeled as “all natural.” Be cautious with any herbal diet pill as some contain stimulants or appetite suppressants which can affect your thyroid and hypothalamus. It is always advisable that you consult with your primary care physician prior to taking any dietary supplement.

The world of diet pills is quite big, so to determine what the best diet pill available is will take some research and diligence. Remember, everyone is different, and results will vary. Regardless of the best diet pills out there, it is conventional wisdom that creating a calorie deficit will result in weight loss. If you are burning more calories each day than you consume, you will inevitably lose weight. It is certainly easier said than done, hence the reason many people search for the best diet pills in order to get some additional help. Always consult with your primary care physician prior to taking any dietary supplement.

OOLONG TEA OR GREEN TEA?

Most people are familiar with green tea. But have you heard of oolong tea? Oolong tea is produced through a process of growing tea leaves and allowing them to wilter under the sun and oxidate prior to curling and twisting. Oolong flavors range widely from sweet and fruity to woody and thick – all depending upon the syle of production. Both oolong and green tea are derived from the same plant, Camellia sinesis. The difference is with the fermentation – green tea is the least processed. Both teas contain caffeine but because oolong tea takes a longer processing time, more of its polyphenols are destroyed so it contains a bit more caffeine than green tea. Some people find oolong tea to be better tasting than green tea. Oolong tea can be found in MetaboUP.

The health benefits of drinking either teas include …

- Lowering sugar levels in diabetics
- Reducing blood pressure
- Lowering cholesterol
- Digestive aid

GUARANA

Chances are you’ve seen Guarana listed as an ingredient in something you have eaten. Many people are familiar with Guarana as an ingredient in foods or supplements they eat or drink but have no knowledge of what it is.

Guarana is a plant found in Venezuela and northern Brazil in the Amazon rainforest. The fruit is small, red and contains black seeds. The seeds are naturally rich in caffeine, containing about 4-8 percent caffeine, which is more than coffee beans. Guarana is used as a stimulant to increase mental alertness, to help counter fatigue and to increase stamina and physical endurance. In Brazil, drinks and sodas made from Guarana are very popular. It is believed that Guarana can also help suppress appetite and help with fat burning.

Some studies have been conducted on Guarana for fat burning as well as alertness and mood.

Because Guarana contains a significant amount of caffeine, people who are sensitive to caffeine should avoid Guarana. Guarana has not been evaluated by the FDA for safety or efficacy. Consult with your physician prior to taking any supplement or food item that contains Guarana, especially if you have heart problems or high blood pressure, kidney disease, an overactive thyroid or an anxiety/nervous disorder. Guarana can also be found in MetaboUp!

FREE RADICALS

Cellular damage in the body is the common pathway for diseases like cancer. And non-diseases like aging. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants can help prevent cellular damage to keep you young (or at least slow the aging process) and help prevent disease. Free radicals are organic molecules that cause aging, tissue damage and some diseases. Antioxidants can help prevent free radicals from harming the healthy tissue in your body. The reason they are called “free” radicals is because they float through your body until they are able to stabilize – meaning they have to steal an extra electron to become stable. This can cause damage in the body. Free radicals are created by air pollution, smoking cigarettes and poisons like cleaners or bug sprays.

By eating a diet rich in antioxidants, the body can stop free radicals from causing damage. Eating a diet rich in fresh produce (fruits and vegetables) will help your body get the vitamins A, E and beta-carotene that it needs to help counter radicals in the body. Antioxidant rich foods include …
– Nuts
- Seeds
- Vegetables
- Fish oils
- Fortified cereals
- Apricots
- Citrus fruits
- Green peppers
- Cabbage
- Spinach
- Broccoli
- Kale
- Cantaloupe
- Kiwi
- Strawberries
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT POLYPHENOL ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants are a buzz word in today’s health news and you’ve likely heard of them. Polyphenol antioxidants may be a new term for you. Simply put, polyphenol antioxidants are antioxidants that contain a polyphenolic substructure. Examples of foods that contain polyphenols include honey, most legumes, fruits (apples, blackberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, cherries, cranberries, grapes, pears, plums, raspberries, strawberries), vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, celery, onion, parsley), red wine, chocolate, white tea, green tea, olive oil, argan oil, bee pollen and many grains. If you already eat many of these in your current diet, what are some of the benefits?

- Potential anti-aging effects (like slowing the process of skin wrinkling)
- Prevention of artery disease
- Anti-inflammatory
- Cancer prevention
- Boost immune system

Other simple ways to get more antioxidants into your diet …

- Eat roasted, not raw peanuts
- Chop carrots after cooking
- Let garlic sit after crushing
- Add lemon to your tea

You’ve been hearing all of the sugar debates lately. You know you should avoid “high-fructose corn syrup.” But why? Is sugar sugar? Or are there truly differences that make some “healthier” than others?

What you need to know …

-	High-fructose corn syrup is a sweetener made from corn. The corn industry is pushing to coin high-fructose corn syrup “corn sugar.” But the sugar industry is opposed to them intermingling with the term “sugar.”

-	The corn industry claims that high-fructose corn syrup does not contain any artificial or synthetic ingredients and that the process to make sugar is similar to that of high-fructose corn syrup. The sugar industry claims there is no naturally occurring fructose in corn or corn starch and that high-fructose corn syrup is a man-made product that existed only after 1960.

-	The corn industry claims high-fructose corn syrup is comprised of two simple sugars – glucose and fructose – and has the same caloric value as table sugar. The sugar industry disagrees and argues there are molecular differences between high-fructose corn syrup and sugar and that the body processes them differently. There are studies that link high-fructose corn syrup with health problems like obesity and high cholesterol.

Breath is a critical element to our life. You are breathing right now as you read this. You breathe perhaps 20,000 times each day. And breathing can greatly influence your health and happiness. Read on for some techniques for proper breathing as well as some breathing exercises.

Many other cultures already know the importance of breath. Incorrect breathing can lead to tension, exhaustion, vocal strain and can encourage illness. So why is breathing so important?

Breathing oxygenates every cell of your body, including your brain and vital organs. If your body does not have sufficient oxygen, it becomes more vulnerable to health problems. Breathing deeply increases levels of blood oxygen, which promotes good health by stimulating the digestive process and by improving mental performance.

So are you breathing incorrectly? Possibly. Many people are shallow breathers, using only the narrow top portion of the lung surface. You want to fill your lungs deeply by utilizing your diaphragm.
